While there were problems with Matthew Waterhouse's acting, I don't think it's really fair to blame him when it's the writers who are at fauly. Things like him going along with the Master are because of bad writing, and he even specifically complained about the bad writing in interviews (the DVD for Four to Doomsday, where he was written particularly badly, quotes him on this in the production notes).

I don't blame the writers; I actually liked the writing in the Davison era, except for the godawful (and ironically Adric-free) "Time Flight", of course.

But you're right about "Four to Doomsday", though. I can almost understand Adric working alongside the admittedly charismatic Master, but not those uh, frog people or whatever they were.

I don't think you really have any choice. You pointed out in the podcast that Adric does dumb things. Well, yeah. But by definition, that's the fault of the writers. The actor doesn't get to decide whether the character does dumb things, the writers do. If you don't like what the character does, you *must* blame the writers--the writers are the ones who control what the character does.

Why did they recast Adric with an entirely different actor in the audio dramas, then? It's not as if Waterhouse can't use the work.

Tom Baker could use the work. So could Janet Fielding. But neither of them werer willing to work for Big Finish for a long time.

And see how they both finally gave in.

Point is, I always hated Adric - he was somehow even more annoying than fucking Mel and her non-stop screeching and screaming.

I never blamed Waterhouse for his lines, I blame Adric because it was his personality to do the stupid. Like I said I didn't realize at the time it was bad acting and writing. In fact at the time I believed writers and artists were subconsciously channeling alternate realities and what we saw was basically happening in an alternate reality. So Adric is a dumb swamp monster pretending to be human.

Ken Arromdee- A PCX Missing since episode 40? Is this a pop up or a return? Have you popped up a few other times?
